Katherine Kellgren’s Welsh accent, with its lyrical cadences, suggests that audio may be the most authentic way to experience this 2011 winner of the Nebula Award. The book, set in 1979, is a diary of Mor as she finds refuge in both her reading and her reading group while away at boarding school. The story is also a tribute to the great fantasy and science fiction of that time period. Kellgren is a master at reflecting the many moods and enthusiasms of Mor, including her comments on what’s she’s reading and on her newfound father and aunts, as well as her attempts to communicate with fairies as a way of staying in touch with home and family.
