THIRD ANNUAL BEST SCIENCE FICTION STORIES OF THE YEAR

Technology plays a surprisingly small role in these provocative (though not very cheerful) explorations of possible human futures. The emphasis is on the human. Going far beyond genre appeal, they are fine works by any standard and are given readings worthy of them. All of the stories are first person narratives, and all of the readers unobtrusively become the narrator, letting the stories tell themselves.
