BLITZ: THE POPPY CHRONICLES IV

The strength and grit of Londoners during the Blitz both lifts one's spirit and tickles one's fancy. Poppy, a successful restaurateur, runs a free canteen for emergency workers. Her daughter, Robin, works as a nurse in a hospital shattered by bombs. An aunt struggles with her black-marketing son and is ultimately bombed right out of her restaurant. The scenes are terrifying, but the spirit of these ladies never sags. The reading by Sheila Steafel is sensitive and reflects the indomitable spirit of the characters.
