TREASURE ISLAND

by | Read by Keir Dullea

Young Adult • 3 hrs. • Abridged • ©

This favorite tale is adapted to a three-hour format with reasonable success. Stevenson's vivid characterizations are missed, but the story flows well. Keir Dullea has a clear, resonant voice which projects well but fails to convey enough of the sinister guile of Long John Silver. The gruffness of the pirates' voices and their gallantry will be popular with a young audience but seem somewhat one-dimensional. The voice of Jim Hawkins, recounting the legend, varies in energy and at times loses its youthfulness. After this introduction, a listener can seek the full text to fill out the images.
