VOYAGE OF THE FROG

by | Read by Kerin McCue

Young Adult • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1989

Although his narrative style succeeds in the beginning, Kerin McCue's failure to vary narrative tone diminishes the power of David Alspeth's fight for survival on the open seas. McCue's emotionless reading captures David's numbed shock as he carries out his cancer-stricken uncle's wish that his ashes be buried at sea. However, McCue fails to snap out of it when the subject of the text switches to David's will to survive. The anger and frustration central to his struggle are alsoabsent in the program. Voyage of the Frog is another of Paulsen's classic stories of self-reliance. Unfortunately, this audio version takes the wind out of his tale. M.P.T. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JAN 94]
