Washington, D.C. revisits the Sanford and Day families of Vidal's Hollywood. Set in the period from 1937 to 1952, the novel features fictional politicians and publishers making deals, jockeying for power, and hiding sex and family scandals against a backdrop of historical events with historical persons serving as minor characters. Grover Gardner's reading keeps the long work alive and interesting. While the novel is an entertaining "page-turner" and can be enjoyed by itself, listeners may look for others in Vidal's American Chronicle series, which are also available from Books on Tape.
