Mystery & Suspense • 1 hr. • Audio Program • ©

These two creepy CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Mystery Theatre productions are based on classic, neglected suspense stories by Algernon Blackwood and Wilkie Collins, respectively. "The Wendigo" is a superb tale of the haunting wilderness, here given its full due by actors and producer. In comparison, "Dream Woman," in which a dream saves a simple country laborer from murder, seems conventional in conception and execution. It makes heavy-handed use of stock music as if to hide production flaws. Both boast excellent scripts and fine acting by Toronto artists. Listen late at night in bed with the lights out for the full chilling effect. Y.R. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPT 97]
