BODY OF EVIDENCE

The murder of writer Beryl Madison offers several challenges to Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta in the second novel of this highly touted series. Stalked for months, Madison inexplicably invited her killer into her home. Scarpetta meticulously traces the intricate and complex paths of lab work and foot work to solve the brutal and bizarre crime. The reading is well-paced, and Hart's interpretation of Scarpetta's voice is appropriate, if perhaps a bit too soft for such a clinical character. Vocal changes are effectively used for different characters although the strong New York accent she gives to Lt. Pete Marino is a bit overdone.
