THE WINNING OF BARBARA WORTH

by | Read by David Sharp

Fiction • 11.8 hrs. • Unabridged • ©

The shenanigans of cutthroat businessmen reclaiming California's Imperial Valley for ranching and farming add life to this story. The struggles against the desert by both rich and poor are clearly depicted, thanks to the descriptive language of Wright. A variety of accents, such an Irish brogue, a Texas drawl and the Spanish of Mexicans, makes the story more believable and entertaining. Blustering complaints and grandiose speeches are also well-portrayed. Except for Barbara Worth, daughter of one of the businessmen, all the characters are male, so the reader's deep voice is appropriate for the story.
