This memoir is the story of how one mom overcomes fears that her parenting will be be dysfunctional and learns how to become an intentional mom with a common-sense approach. Grant is a keen observer of herself and today’s culture, so the book is brimming with satisfying insights and revelations. Her narrating voice is flat, but it conveys enough of her generous personality to tell us who she is and not get in the way of her excellent storytelling. It’s a good-enough performance that delivers advice such as lowering unrealistic expectations, staying on top of children’s electronics, and setting a stabilizing, cooperative tone in the household. Though slow to get to the heart of its message, it will awaken listeners’ desire to lighten up and try a lot of the practices she offers.
