WOPILA--A GIVEAWAY

by | Read by Dovie Thomason

Storytelling • 1 hr. • Audio Program • ©

Wopila is a good name for this collection for it truly is a gift. Wrapped in the talented voice of Dovie Thomason, the stories delight the listener, drawing us deeper into their spell. On the first side Thomason introduces Lakota storytelling and includes four tales of Native American people, animals and spirits. The second side tells us of Iktomi, "the foolish one." Iktomi means spider, and indeed, he spins webs of deception, often getting caught in his own lies. Thomason is a master of imitation: her animal characters are believable, and she can even duplicate the scraping of branches against each other in the wind.
