This author and reader take a respite from the author's successful Prey series to return to Sandford's first character, Kidd--artist by day and computer genius/high-tech thief by night. The reader, who has portrayed almost all of Sandford's unabridged Lucas Davenport stories about a cop who hunts serial killers, shows his versatility here. In the Prey series, he is called upon to make his unusual voice sound evil and diabolical in portraying the inevitable serial killer. In this offering, he is glib and even comical as he captures the jargon and slick banter between computer hackers. As Kidd searches for the murderer of a programmer acquaintance and discovers the secrets of computer encryption, Ferrone is at his best.
