KINCH

Jack Garrett, a newcomer in the narrator field, does an outstanding job with his polished dramatization of this bawdy, raucous Western. He easily distinguishes the voices of Kinch Riley, the 17-year-old consumptive and hero; lawman McCluskie; and the Texas cowboys and townsfolk of Newton. Oral tradition and newspaper clippings indicate that in 1871 Kinch avenged the murder of McCluskie, but neither life is recorded in the pages of history. Braun captures the flavor of the American frontier in words, and Garrett brings them to life. This coming-of-age novel is recommended for all ages.
