Simon Vance expertly narrates this mystery full of grave robbers, barbarous barbers, shady surgeons, giants, and dwarves. Vance never falters when confronted with the large range of characters and the British, Irish, and American accents they require. Listeners can tell at a word which character is speaking at any given time, and Vance’s voice for Lady Lydia Farrell is fully believable. Fans of Harris’s series will enjoy this installment, based partially on the true personage and circumstances of Charles Byrne, the so-called “Irish Giant” who gained fame in London in the 1780s.
