AFTER THE FIRE

It's 1670, four years after the Great Fire of London, and Restoration London is coming back. Betsy Brand is an actress at the new Dorset Gardens Theatre when London is terrorized by a series of grisly murders that are somehow connected to the theatre. Pilkington has created an appealing heroine in the young Betsy Brand, whose acting skills come in handy as she attempts to get to the bottom of the murder spree. Annie Aldington manages to keep the listener engaged as she navigates the story and the large cast of characters. Her delivery is well paced and uses tone and accent to distinguish the various voices. Fans of British mysteries with historical settings will enjoy this first entry in a new series.
