LADY ON THE LOCH

Scotland of 1567 comes alive in the varied accents Leslie Mackie gives to each distinctive character in McInnes's historical novel. When Lachlan Gilmore carries out an act of chivalry for the distressed Lady Annabel Erskine--he helps her carriage out of a bog--he unknowingly becomes involved in the imprisonment of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. Mackie adds uniqueness to each character, both female and male, while maintaining Scottish theatrics to keep listeners entertained. Her voice vividly paints this period in history and makes the setting easy to visualize. Lachlan and Annabel's accents are perfectly modulated and show how Mackie is in her element as narrator.
