PEPPERMINTS IN THE PARLOR

Emily Luccock, young and recently orphaned, expects to find a safe haven with her aunt and uncle in San Francisco. However, she arrives to find her aunt, and then herself, virtual slaves of the nasty Mrs. Meeching. Filled with all those wonderful gothic elements we love so well--murder, deceit, dark secrets, as well as a happy ending--this story and Angela Lansbury's reading will keep listeners on the edge of their seats. Drawing upon her many decades of acting experience, Lansbury reads with great verve. Her characterizations are consistent and believable (although some may wonder why so many folks in San Francisco speak with English accents). Narrative sections are read as ably as the dialogue.
