THE TRUEST PLEASURE

Ginny and Tom's marriage is rooted in a mutual affection that has never quite blossomed. Their obsessions divide them: Tom's is the desire to own his own land, and Ginny's is the responsibility of managing her father's farm while meeting her spiritual needs with religious fanaticism. Jill Hill's down-home delivery sprinkles authenticity into her performance. Her depiction of Ginny speaking in tongues reinforces Tom's embarrassment of his wife and the widening gap in their relationship. When Tom becomes terribly sick, Hill tenderly threads the couple's healing moments with compassionate and heart-wrenching words of love and forgiveness.
