It must be something more than a coincidence that as Carson's personal and business attorney for 18 years, the author was nicknamed "Bombastic Bushkin"--and this audiobook is read by Dick Hill in a bombastic, overly dramatic manner. Hill's narration invites comparison with the styles of the quintessentially silly anchorman Ted Baxter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," the iconoclastic Howard Cosell, or perhaps Carson's own characterization of Art Fern, host of the satiric "Tea Time Movie" sketches on "The Tonight Show." Hill's amplified staccato doesn't assist the preponderance of clichéd writing, which is peppered with celebrity name-dropping. Fans of Carson will enjoy the insights into the very private and talented man. Ultimately, this is a reasonably entertaining true story that, sadly, is not all that listenable.
