Stephen Crossley's relaxed, deadpan reading perfectly mirrors the attitudes of "heroes" Whitman Morris and Alex Hobart. Not a traditional Western, as there's little romance til the end, the story focuses on two ordinary men trying to evade the law. Whit's a thief, and Alex once attempted to assassinate President Grant. Crossley uses a slight, charming drawl for Alex and a growling, flat timbre for Whit. In sum, Crossley's presentation suits the tone and character of Bradley's charming Old West tale. Listeners will grow to know and like these guys, despite their failings.
