It's always a comfortable feeling listening to John Rubinstein narrate the latest audiobook from Jonathan Kellerman. This thriller, which again features psychologist and police consultant Alex Delaware and Los Angeles detective Milo Sturgis, is a sophisticated and gripping novel that begins with a child custody dispute and quickly evolves into a murder mystery with a rapidly growing group of victims. Rubinstein, who has delivered other Kellerman novels, truly understands Delaware and inhabits his psyche masterfully, conveying the nuances of the doctor's thinking with ease. Listeners will appreciate Rubinstein's deft use of pace, especially the way he weaves the dialogue between Delaware and Sturgis.
