BLOTTO, TWINKS AND THE RIDDLE OF THE SPHINX

by | Read by Simon Brett

Mystery & Suspense • 6.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2013

Simon Brett does a smashingly good narration in this latest installment of his Blotto and Twinks series. The brother-and-sister duo must travel to Egypt in an attempt to, yet again, save the family fortune. Brett's Egyptian accent is as effective as the tone, pace, and humor he uses for the English characters in this Wodehouse-like caper. The snooty mother (a dowager duchess), erudite Oxford don, and family chauffeur brim with life--and strong opinions. Particularly fun are the offbeat phrases--such as "What in the name of strawberries . . ."-- that Blotto and Brett use, which add to the antiquated feel of the story. Listeners will appreciate Brett's sly comments on the greed of the wealthy and how they abuse their downtrodden employees. S.G.B © AudioFile 2014, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2014]
