CHROME YELLOW

by | Read by Michael Maloney

Classics • 6.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1921

In Huxley's first novel, poet Denis Stone arrives at Crome, home of Priscilla and Henry Winbush, for a summer idyll. He is smitten by the aloof Anne and pursues her thoughout the rooms and gardens. The other inhabitants interact with thoughts on religion, reading, art, and all those other subjects enjoyed by dilettantes. This novel of rich and funny conversation is a fabulous canvas for Michael Maloney. His precise timing, inventory of accents, and vocal range add immensely to the delights of this engaging house party. His multitude of impersonations seems to come from different throats. This is a book that reminds one of Wodehouse and Waugh in its hilarious exposé of high society. B.H.B. (c) AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/ JAN 02]
