It's time to plan Oldford's Literary Festival, and the diverse committee has many vastly different suggestions, which narrator Andrew Wincott enumerates perfectly. DCI John Lambert and his partner, Bert Hook, are called in when committee members begin receiving threatening letters. Wincott captures the crisp dialogue of the two main characters, along with the personalities of committee members Peter Preston, egomaniac and "authority on everything," and Sam Hilton, a sensitive poet. Listeners will marvel at Wincott’s dexterity as he moves from reporting on a rousing soccer match to reciting a poem about a beloved grandfather who is dying to delivering the interrogations of the police as they question and re-question the many suspects.
