Bill Mann was raised by his gruff grandfather after his mother deserted him and his dad died in the Vietnam War. Driven by curiosity and desire, he sets off to find his mother in Santa Fe, New Mexico (her last known location). Campbell Scott delivers an insightful yet distant performance as Bill Mann. Scott's aloof style fits Mann's inability to express himself in any dramatic manner. His life has left him empty but hopeful, and Scott supplies a bridge from what Mann was to what he eventually becomes. As Mann finds his world filled with promise and colorful characters, Scott illuminates their secrets, dreams, and desires.
