THE TRICKY CATERPILLAR AND OTHER TALES

Lu Ann Adams brings delight in her craft and enthusiasm for the stories she tells in this recording. She provides a mix of traditional and original tales and sets the scene for each one with a short vignette. The listener is transported to Adams's own third-grade classroom, to the highest reaches of the sky along with a compassionate mouse, to a kingdom where the prince believes himself to be a rooster, and under the sea with a jaunty take-off on "The Twelve Days of Christmas." While the stories are compelling in themselves, Adams embellishes with just the right mix of accompanying music, sound effects, and vocal change. For example, she gives life to a chorus of monkeys in "Anansi and the Tiger's Stew." Young and old will find pleasure in Adams's storytelling. A.R.
