Here is the extraordinary story of an English soldierly gentleman who, during the early half of the twentieth century, fell in love with a piece of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and set out to build an English country manor there, hundreds of miles from other white men. Sir Stewart Gore-Browne is now a major figure in Zambian history, having been one of the very few white men who championed the rights of the native population, both personally and politically, in the years of rapid development.
