Leslie Charteris, real-life creator of The Saint mystery series, in this book becomes his own protagonist. Jeff Woodman offers a stellar performance, both in narrative and dialogue. He skips effortlessly and flawlessly among German, Austrian, British, Boston, and Brooklyn accents, with a few others thrown in for good measure. Woodman's females take on a lighter, but never simpering, tone that renders them believable or suspect, likable or detestable, young or old, as the text dictates. Woodman clearly appreciates Collins's impeccable research, subtle humor, and seamless blend of the real and the imagined, and brings his appreciation into a fine performance.
