THE LITTLE SQUEEGY BUG

Originally written in 1945 and warmly endorsed by Eleanor Roosevelt, this story has a historic feel to it, which John McDonough's rendition does everything to enhance. McDonough's deep, dignified voice imparts near-biblical importance to this small tale of determination and nonviolence; he playfully creates insect characters such as Creepy the Caterpillar and Haunchy the Spider without ever making them sound silly. This story of an earnest bug who longs for the silver wings and sting of a bumblebee will engage young listeners while inviting an older audience to consider the significance of how the Squeegy bug eventually gets, not a stinger, but a lantern at the end of his quest.
