A passion for sailing and the lure of the sea provide the underpinnings of Bowler's novel of Midget, a physically challenged 15-year-old and his quest for personal fulfillment and vindication. The mental and physical cruelty inflicted on Midget by his older brother, Seb, is intense and unnerving. Yet, through the intervention of Old Joseph and his vessel, MIRACLE MAN, Midget comes to understand the power of "mind over matter" in its most powerful forms, both good and evil. Dominic Taylor's narration adds impressively to this unsettling novel. As Midget, his stuttering and excruciating effort to turn thoughts into words is painfully evident. As the psychiatrist, Taylor is cold and calculating. As Seb, he flashes from smooth brotherly love to penetrating hatred.
