READ THESE LIPS

Hilarious lesbian stand-up comedy was recorded in concert in San Francisco. The writer/comedienne turned from teaching English to show business twenty years ago to considerable acclaim in and out of homosexual circles. She strikes responsive chords in the gay community, while so positioning her style as to provide a risible shock of recognition outside those narrow confines. She tosses some verbal brickbats at ultraconservatives and gay-bashers with amazing aim but mainly deals with contemporary social and family issues in a self-deprecating, good-natured style. Much of her humor stems from a seemingly inexhaustible supply of imaginative and apt analogies. Her clever punch lines follow close on the heels of each other so that the laughter is almost nonstop.
