A novel and a history lesson, this tome chronicles the adventures of an American who plays baseball in Cuba during the Revolution and who recruits Fidel Castro for the Washington Senators. Amazingly, the author has managed to interest yours truly, a sportsaphobe, not only in his characters, but in the game. Narrator Parker approaches the material in a somewhat detached documentary style, though he is by no means insensitive to the drama or the characters. His pace is lively, and he keeps the plot moving without a hitch. Y.R. © AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/JAN 00]
