2019 Best Romance Audiobooks

6 Audiobooks You Will LOVE!

2019 Best Romance Audiobooks

2019 Best Romance Audiobooks

What a busy time of year — the traffic around town is constantly stuck, you’re shopping, you’re baking, you’re preparing for family . . . if you’re like me, your hand is glued to your bullet journal like a lifeline in a world of chaos.

But today, posting AudioFile’s Best Romance Audiobooks of 2019, there are six such STUPENDOUS choices, I must insist that you take a breath, take a moment, and choose as many of these as you can to add to your playlist. As Dr. Seuss might say, you can listen around town, you can listen in a gown, you can listen to what you can’t put down. We may be too busy for words, but we are never too busy for listening.

And what listening! While it is never easy to narrow a prolific year down to six titles, I can say that this list, individually and collectively, represents one of the best years ever for romance. Congratulations to AudioFile’s incredibly dedicated editorial staff and romance reviewers for bringing this list together as well as the talented authors and narrators for its creation. Let’s dive in. Read more…

Narrator Angela Dawe on Nalini Singh’s Paranormal Romance Audiobooks

Angela Dawe Wolf Rain

Angela Dawe Wolf Rain

Recently I had the absolute treat of listening to Nalini Singh’s WOLF RAIN, narrated by Angela Dawe. For those who don’t know Singh, she has several long-running paranormal series, one of which is the Psy-Changeling series. That series has spun off into the Trinity series, which only has 3 books, so it’s a great time to jump in. WOLF RAIN, part of the Trinity series, is just one of those perfect audiobooks where the listener will be fully immersed, fully enchanted, and never want to stop listening. (Be sure to check out AudioFile’s review of this Earphones Award-winning title.) It was a real pleasure corresponding with Angela to hear her personal perspective on Singh’s series and her work in the audiobook industry. Without further ado, let’s get to know narrator Angela Dawe!  Read more…

Do I Have to Listen in Order?

4 New Romance Series Starters

The Start of Something Good

The Start of Something GoodI am, usually through every fault of my own, a person who reads series out of order. I’ve started in the middle of series by Elizabeth Peters, Marissa Meyer, Lemony Snicket, and JD Robb (all on audio, mind you), and I’ve lived to tell the tale. So, far be it from me to judge, but I do pay attention to “Book 1” reviews — that is to say, a review of the first audiobook in a new romance series. A Book 1 review gives you, the discerning listener (because you can see that I’m a hopeless cause) the chance to start from the beginning and enjoy an ongoing romance experience that makes chronological, logical sense. And, yay, here are four new ones! Three contemporaries and a historical by mostly big-name authors and well known narrators, so you can’t go wrong here. I hope you love your listening, in whatever order you choose. Read more…

Robin’s Roundup: November 24 New Audiobook Reviews

Dance, Danza, Ballet, Folklore, Fables: Seasonal Traditions

Danza

One of the great traditions of the season is the many live performances that families can attend. The glamour and excitement of dance events are my favorite. Two new audiobooks we just reviewed, DANZA! and THE NUTCRACKER MICE, can put your youngsters in the mood . . . for Mexican folkloric music or the traditional Nutcracker ballet. And there’s a classic audiobook that should be on every dance-loving family listening list, BALLET STORIES. This classic from 2001 is an Earphones and Audie Award winner and is punctuated with Naxos AudioBooks’ signature music, and meticulous attention to detail. And for anyone who watched CALL THE MIDWIFE on PBS, Jenny Agutter (Sister Julienne) narrates this wonderful program. Read more…

Tease: Intro to the Genre

The best titles to suck you into romance listening

Oh, dear. You know how you have an idea, and you think it’s a good idea, and then after a while, you realize you didn’t know what you were getting into? This is that time.

The Firebird

It was supposed to be simple (sigh). Introduce audiobook listeners to the romance genre with a few touchstone titles. These are audiobooks that epitomize the best of the genre and would appeal to a wide range of listeners. I thought I would organize it by category — for example, if you’re a mystery reader, you can jump into a romantic suspense listen and barely notice the landing. I had a few titles and narrators in my head. I started to organize them on paper to make categories. I jotted titles on the first paper. Quick and easy, right? Not so. I ran out of paper, had to start a second sheet. I thought of more suggestions. Then, I had to turn both of the sheets sideways in order to scribble more titles. Then, I was squeezing them in between the lines on both notes. Did I mention I don’t have good handwriting to begin with?

Long story short, there are MANY gateways to romance audio, and they are all worth entering. Here are a FEW to get you started. (Yes, this is a much shortened list from the original notes.)
