HERMAN MELVILLE'S MOBY DICK & THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER

At a time when TV was elbowing out radio in the U.S,, the CBC's Andrew Allan was bringing about a Golden Age of radio drama in Canada. Here are two of his productions from 1949. Don't expect Melville and Coleridge; instead accept these for what they are - - popular melodrama of the scene-chewing variety - - and you will have a lot of fun. A pre-BONANZA Lorne Green plays peg-legged Captain Ahab. The crackle of the old transcription discs from which these tapes were made adds to the period flavor, like the crackling soundtrack of an old horror movie. Y.R.
