Rankin draws back the curtain that divides the novel and the play so that listeners can appreciate the parallels between Casey's romance and Austen's story. The lovers' misunderstandings are given full comic weight, especially Tate's valiant fight with a peacock in Casey's bedroom. Each of Austen's beloved characters stands out in dialogue.
