Detective Casey Maxwell traces the murder of a "Jane Doe" to the campaign headquarters of the most influential and hard-nosed politician in town. It seems everybody in the senator's immediate family could be a suspect. The chief of police wants the case wrapped up in 24 hours, but nobody's talking. The bit parts and sound effects of this full-cast audio add nicely to its ambience, but, as in most good detective stories, the interior monologues are where the action is. Nonalee Davis handles Casey Maxwell's first-person point of view with equal parts grace and toughness. She is especially good with the sharp asides. The twisting plot and the cool jazz interludes will keep you listening. B.P.
