Narrator Sophie Aldred uses the full range of her voice to give life to main character Rae Rabble. When the Rabble family is hired to portray peasants at a castle opening, Rae's father starts researching; her younger brother, Rupert, becomes obsessed with the Plague; her older brother, Ryan, starts trying to design a better suit of armor; and Rae starts worrying. Aldred finds distinct voices for each of the Rabbles and even the most minor characters. Rupert's voice is all enthusiasm, Ryan's voice is dreamy and distracted, and one of Rae's classmates sounds appropriately annoying. A pitch-perfect choice for family listening. A.F.
