HALFHYDE GOES TO WAR

by | Read by Christopher Scott

Historical Fiction • 6.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1985

Reader Christopher Scott has a fine time with this one, rolling out Cockney, Dutch, Scottish, South African, Boer, and Australian accents with delight. He exudes enthusiasm as he presents one of the Lt. St. Vincent Halfhyde series of sea stories, set at the time of the Boer war. (McCutchan wrote over 120 books, and there are at least 15 Halfhydes.) The stalwart lieutenant leaves his ship to oversee the transfer of gold bullion inland--most of the story is ashore. His girlfriend, Caroline, follows him, and there are battles, captures, escapes, hijackings, everything one expects from a tale akin to those of Patrick O'Brian and C.S. Forester. Action! Adventure! Romance! They're all here. D.A.W. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 05]
