IRREPARABLE HARM

by | Read by Ross Ballard II

Fiction • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 2003

Mitchell Taylor, an attorney with little experience, takes a case involving the surrogate mother of a cloned embryo. When the biological father dies, the biological mother, now knowing the fetus has Down's syndrome, wants the child aborted. The surrogate wants to save "her" child. Mitchell must grapple with the issue of saving not only the child carried by Maryna, but the other frozen cloned embryos while staying true to his Christian faith. Although Ross Ballard III reads with fairly consistent conviction, his performance lacks subtlety, especially in his characterizations of the villains, and his vocal characterizations are uneven. Maryna's Cambodian accent is noticeably inconsistent. There are some suspenseful moments in this courtroom drama but little depth. M.A.M. (c) AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/ JUL 04]
