Johnny Heller brings his usual high-quality narration to this light mystery set in the 1950s. In this third audiobook in Anspach's series involving private investigator Sam Rockwell, Heller shapes the characters with intonation and emotion. Sam is hired to determine who is sending death threats to a local ballplayer. Heller keeps the characters straight, offering a slightly inpatient voice for Sam's father; a pleasant-sounding tone for Sam's wife, Amelia; and Southern twangs for several ballplayers. Along the way, the author drops in a bit of humor and sarcasm. Heller is a great choice with his casual and appropriate voices. A fun listen.
