The famed trial lawyer's first novel, about a life-and-death courtroom fight in 1950s Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is narrated with excellent pacing by Adam Grupper. The court battle revolves around Judge John Murray and his nemesis, Prosecutor Haskins Sewell. Murray and his wife have no children of their own but have "adopted" Lillian Adams, a talented artist with anger issues. Until now, Judge Murray has been able to help her with her problems--but this time she is charged with the premeditated murder of her wealthy husband. Her defense attorney zealously tries to defend Lillian, only to discover she may be protecting someone else. The story takes place mainly in the courtroom. Narrator Grupper gives the characters appropriate accents and breathes life into their mannerisms, keeping listeners engaged throughout.
