BIG GEORGE

If you were a miller's daughter in England in 1103, would you make friends with a visiting giant alien? Tilly assumes only the best of "Big George," as she names him, despite his luminescent face and indefinitely extendable neck. Sylvester McCoy deftly narrates this whimsical fairy tale. George may not speak English, but McCoy manages to portray the furry giant's confused perspective with warmth. McCoy's formal English is applied with just the right touch. The frightened villagers are presented with equal parts of uncertainty and silliness, while Tilly seems quite matter-of- fact in her acceptance of the incredible visitor. N.M.C.
