Young Matthew Bland's fantasy life is nothing whatsoever like his family name. He's an enthusiastic film director who uses his long-suffering friends to star in his many movies. Narrator Stephen Perring's delivery brings humor to Cheshire's one-liners, puns, and exaggerated accents. Matthew thinks in movie dialogue and imagines himself winning numerous film awards. This adds to the fun for kids, with Perring using verve to match Matthew's pride in his work. Particularly endearing, and realistic, is Matthew's friendly rivalry with his "perfect" brother, who is the ideal child for their most traditional mother.
