The place is Kenya, the time is the present, the game is mystery/intrigue. On holiday from England, PI Chris Shovelin is hired by an attractive investigative reporter from Johannesburg to work as her minder on safari. She's exploring the destructive practices that a giant food conglomerate is carrying out in Africa. When she disappears, Chris must battle to save her. Christopher Kay gives a sensitive and well-paced reading. His rendition of English-speaking East Africans seems right, and they don't all sound the same. He handles the high adventure with enthusiasm, and in the grimmer scenes, such as the sewer beneath the Kenyatta Airport, he successfully conveys the misery, despair, and humanity of the abandoned AIDS orphans of Nairobi. An excellent listen. R.E.K. (c) AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/ SEP 04]
