Monty Python meets vaudeville meets "Saturday Night Live." Wordplay, rap songs, and general silliness abound. The first half of the program covers the histories, which are summarized using choice quotes and embellished with riffs on English history. A song, "Dem Dead Kings," is followed by a football game in which the monarchs of England pass the throne instead of a football. The second half takes on most of the tragedies, again with choice quotes, followed by songs, stories, sound effects, and general hilarity. The humor ranges from juvenile to sophisticated, with lots in between. What makes these shows work is that they have something for everyone. E.S.
