Having gone from biker-chick to shopkeeper, Billie Morgan has seen it all. When a surprise news story threatens to reveal her deepest secret, she is ready for her settled life to be upended, but not prepared for how the catastrophe will play out. Joolz Denby provides a touching and perceptive rendition of her own work, showcasing her considerable narrative talent. Billie comes across both tender and tough. Her druggie, biker, and gang friends, as well as her family, each receive thoughtful portrayals. Denby even imparts a believable soul to a minor character who is mentally retarded, bringing out his sweet and loyal nature in his few appearances in the story.
