Katherine Kellgren's passionate narrative is a perfect match for author Rice, who is known for her heartfelt novels. Kellgren's sweet voice tells the story of Lily Malone, a pregnant woman who left her Connecticut home and abusive husband to escape to the peace of Nova Scotia--and now must return back home. Kellgren doesn't use much variation of tone to distinguish among characters. However, she provides each with a unique depth of feeling, thereby ensuring a distinction that enhances the listening experience with its subtlety. The intensity of the narrative increases with Lily's arrival in Connecticut as she confronts her grandmother's mortality and the demons of her past.
