John McDonald tells droll stories in the authentic voice of a Mainer. Maine's a tad slower than other places, he observes, and our humor is unhurried too--don't expect any New York one-liners here. With unhurried pacing, McDonald "remodels and reconditions" stories you've heard and many you haven't while shedding light on the tourist-Mainer relationship, giving directions, teaching useful Maine words and phrases ("cahn't miss it" equals "you'll nevuh find it"), and instructing on how to distinguish a Mainer from a Flatlander (only one pronounces "ayuh" properly). Some stories are funnier than others, but McDonald allows listeners their own reactions.
