BENNY AND BABE

BENNY AND BABE is a coming-of-age story about a boy and a girl from different walks of life who forge a deep friendship. Benny is a townie from Dublin, who is summering in Wexford; Babe is a wooller, a local lass who initially won't give Benny the time of day. The pair dreams up a scheme to make money hunting for lost lures by tricking the natives, dodging sea currents and incoming tides, and ignoring sound advice from their elders. American listeners aged 10-14 must get past a first chapter full of Irish colloquialisms, a subject--the sport of hurling--unfamiliar to most outside the Emerald Isle, and a somewhat difficult-to-understand brogue.
