LUCKY AT CARDS

Don't let 'em tell ya' any different--dames and cards don't mix. This hard-boiled story by Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Lawrence Block is wonderfully rendered with a brash "Bogie" attitude by Alan Sklar. While professional cardsharp Bill Maynard recovers from getting the stuffing beat out of him after he's caught cheating, he falls in lust with Joyce Rogers, the wife of his latest mark. The sex, violence, and laughs come quick and hard, inducing head nods, sympathetic winces as Maynard pays for his failures, and grins. People who cheat at cards can easily spot their marks.
